The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a $9,500 contribution to the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District to help cover staff wages and local program costs. A district representative asked the board to repeat last year’s contribution so the district could meet state reporting requirements and continue operations.
"So what we're here for is to petition you to provide us with a little bit of funding to help pay for my wages every year," the district representative said, noting the district also included outreach materials and a tree-sale order form in its packet. County staff confirmed the amount had been budgeted and Commissioners approved the motion by roll call.
Commissioners requested the usual documentation that the state requires and asked the district to return the signed form for the county record. The board’s approval was unanimous on voice vote, and staff said they would forward the signed notice to the state per routine procedure.
