Van Buren County approves FY2025 budget amendment with line‑item increases

The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors adopted an amendment to the FY2025 county budget at its Jan. 27, 2025 meeting after a public hearing that drew no oral or written comments.
The board approved Resolution #01‑27‑2025A, which adjusted maximum expenditures for multiple service areas: Public Safety & Legal Services from $1,873,993 to $1,898,948; Physical Health & Social Services from $909,991 to $952,674; Roads & Transportation from $6,500,000 to $6,543,680; and several other line items. Departmental appropriations were also changed, including the Sheriff’s office increasing from $1,562,693 to $1,577,083 and the Medical Examiner from $21,175 to $39,500. The resolution corrected prior errors in Conservation fund allocations that were misapplied in Resolution #10‑28‑2024.
Vice Chairman Robert Waugh opened the public hearing at 9:03 a.m.; finding no public comment following publication in the Van Buren County Register on Jan. 16, 2025, the hearing was closed at 9:08 a.m. by motion of Dale House, seconded by Waugh. The resolution passed on a roll call vote: Meek — Not Present; Waugh — Aye; House — Aye.
The amendment provides the board’s current ceiling for expenditures in those service areas for the remainder of FY2025 and incorporates corrections the board said were needed to reflect proper fund accounting. The board did not record additional public input on the amendment and took final action the same day.
