Board approves award of $3.299 million contract for new Roanoke Road fire station, contingent on deed transfer

The Troup County Board voted Dec. 2 to award the construction contract for a new two‑bay fire station at 3157 Roanoke Road to Principal Construction, whose low base bid was $3,299,000. Staff said the county received ten bids and completed plan reviews; the project site is former Tatum School property transferred from the Troup County School System.
"We received 10 bids. The low bid on the base bid, which is, the 2 bay fire station, the low bid was principal construction at $3,299,000," the presenter said. County staff told the board the county has not yet received a deed transfer from the school board, so any contract would need to be contingent on legal review and closing of the property transfer before construction begins.
Board members discussed scheduling and the procurement timeline; staff noted contract negotiations, bonds and insurance typically take about 30 days. The chair moved to approve awarding the construction contract conditioned on completion of legal steps and deed transfer, and the motion carried by voice vote.
