The Opportunity Cemetery Board said it expects most of the commemorative bricks to arrive in September and confirmed plans to raise the monument pad and install a roughly 10‑foot-wide walkway from Main Road to the pad.
“The old brick that came in is the wrong kind,” a board member said, noting crews will return incorrect stock and begin preparing the base this month so the monument pad can be brought up and made somewhat level with the roadway. The board discussed ordering flagpoles in advance so installation can proceed when funds and materials are available.
Members described a roughly 40‑by‑40 area for the monument and said the final monument design will depend on what money remains after base work, bricks and engraving are paid for. The Chair said the board will run a campaign to sell engraved bricks and will pick the monument options based on remaining funds and the number of engraved bricks sold.
Next steps include finishing the base work, receiving the correct brick shipment in September, and finalizing the monument selection and flagpole order when a clearer budget total is available.
