County fire officials report light spring burn season but more than 1,300 active burn permits

Jared Barnes, Pottawatomie County Consolidated Fire supervisor, told the committee this spring was a light burn season but the department is tracking more than 1,300 active burn permits in Pottawatomie County and is working on its budget.
Pottawatomie County Sheriff Doug Adams reported that Tulip Fest proceeded without major incident, the office will support several upcoming county events, and the Sheriff’s Office is starting a cold‑case program after participating in reality‑based training with partner agencies. Wamego Police Chief Dale Burton said his department participated in Tulip Fest, will take part in Community Day in the Park and will escort an Honor Flight convoy.
The reports underscored seasonal event support, training, and permit volumes that local responders track as part of planning for summer operations.
