County appraiser reports appraisal-mailing extension to March 16

Chair called up the county appraiser to brief the commission on appraisal-mailing deadlines. The appraiser said state law generally requires appraisal notices to be mailed by March 1 but that Ellis County had been granted an extension to March 16 because of staff turnover. "We lost a staff member last year ... currently we have an extension until March 16," the appraiser said, explaining that the office was working to get the notices out and that a further extension remained possible.
Commissioners acknowledged the notice and thanked the appraiser for the update. The discussion covered personal property valuation outreach and the clerical challenges that contributed to the delay; no formal action was taken.
