Ellis County OKs short closure so health department staff can attend governor's public health conference

Melissa Miller of the Ellis County Health Department asked the commission for permission to close the office Monday, March 30 through Wednesday, April 1 so staff may attend the governor's public health conference in Wichita. "The conference ... will offer sessions that can speak to each of our departments," Miller said, listing topics such as lead-exposure prevention, reducing disparities, grant writing and immunization updates.
Commissioner Nathan Leiker moved to allow the closure; the motion was seconded and approved by the board. Miller told commissioners the workforce development grant will cover hotel registrations and that staff will plan ahead for client appointments during the closure. No public opposition to the closure was recorded at the meeting.
