Medical Advisory Committee policy updates on TXA, snakebite care, preeclampsia and BLS CPAP out for comment

Dr. Karl Sporer told the Emergency Medical Care Committee on Jan. 28 that the Medical Advisory Committee reviewed a set of policy updates that went out for public comment on Jan. 12.
The listed policy changes include an increased prehospital dosage of tranexamic acid (TXA), updated management protocols for snakebite patients, the use of magnesium sulfate for treatment of preeclampsia, and authorization to allow Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) use by BLS providers. Eric Paulson and Dr. Sporer are scheduling training sessions for the new policies, and county staff said the 2026 policy updates will go into effect April 1, 2026.
