Morgan County Planning and Development presented proposed text amendments to Articles 19, 20 and 21 of the Zoning Ordinance intended to align county notice rules with the Georgia Zoning Procedures Law. Staff recommended reducing the required newspaper advertising and sign posting period from 30 days to 15 days prior to hearings and removing the requirement to mail notices to property owners and applicants.
Planning and Development Director Chuck Jarrell said the changes would improve administrative flexibility while maintaining compliance with state law. Chairman Blake McCormack asked for public comment; none was offered. Commissioners voted to add the notice-related text amendments (including variance and conditional-use notice changes) to the consent agenda for final action at the next meeting.
The proposed changes alter how the county will inform the public about zoning hearings; the Board's unanimous motion to place the text amendments on the consent agenda means they will be considered for formal adoption at a future meeting unless removed.
