The Wausau Room Tax Commission elected Tim VanDyat as its new chair during a July 27 meeting after outgoing leadership said they had reached a term limit under a local ordinance.
The outgoing chair said he had served three years and believed a local ordinance or rule prevented serving more than three years in a five-year period. Member Anil moved to close nominations; that motion passed and, with no other nominees, the commission affirmed VanDyat as chair by voice vote. VanDyat accepted the nomination, saying, “Yes. I would accept that.”
After taking the seat, VanDyat and commissioners agreed to postpone choosing a vice chair until the commission has its full complement in attendance. The chair election and the vice-chair postponement were handled by voice votes; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript.
The commission then moved on to approve meeting minutes and consider tourism grant requests.
