Commissioners ask congressional staff for help after BLM declines transfer of Lorenzo boat-dock road

Jefferson County officials discussed the Lorenzo Boat Dock road, a roughly 0.75-mile access the county has maintained although the land is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
Public works staff said BLM cannot locate an agreement to grant maintenance to the county and declined to convey the roadway. Commissioners said they have routinely maintained and graded the road and suggested turning the road into a county-maintained right-of-way so the county could receive state funding (fuel-tax allocations) for maintenance. "If that's the case and they can't produce an agreement, then we'll probably quit maintaining it," a county official said.
The county asked representatives from the congressional delegation to help explore conveyance options, section 8 agreements, or inclusion in a broader land package that could transfer title or maintenance responsibility. Congressional staff offered to coordinate calls with BLM and federal land managers and to provide guidance on legislative conveyance mechanisms. Commissioners said the road also functions as an emergency access to a nearby dike during flood response and emphasized the operational need for a durable solution.
