Council asks staff to study permanent General Fund support for Fire and EMS

Council discussed standing up a permanent General Fund allocation for Fire and EMS operations in 2027 following committee conversation on June 29. Auditor Gabe Below told council that a new permanent allocation could require adjustments elsewhere in the General Fund because other departments rely on those resources; council instructed the Safety Service Director to evaluate cost-saving measures and new revenue options and to report back with recommendations.
Mr. Below said council previously approved a $225,000 transfer from the General Fund to the Fire Fund and that the total for the fiscal year is $450,000. He recommended drafting a resolution directing city officials to analyze feasibility and proposed allocation strategies; council signaled intent to consider such a resolution later in the month.
