Public works or fire‑department staff described the existing roof as a flat membrane system that has been patched over time, estimating its useful life exceeded at 20–30 years and that seams and membrane were failing. “It’s well exceeded its useful life,” a staff member said, noting previous resealing had extended life temporarily and the replacement will require stripping layers before installing a new roof.
Council members asked about the roof’s age and longevity; staff replied previous repairs had added about 10 years and the earlier roof installation occurred roughly 20–30 years ago. The council approved the resolution by roll call and the project will proceed under the finance committee’s recommendation and capital budgeting.
