Surry County supervisors appoint David Harrison interim county administrator effective July 1, 2026

At a Jan. 2 special meeting, the Surry County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution amending the county administrator's employment agreement and appointed David Harrison to serve as interim county administrator effective July 1, 2026. Ms. Perkins read the resolution, which says the board and Melissa D. Rollins agreed to modify terms to address her announced retirement.
"Be it further resolved that the Surry County Board of Supervisors appoints David Harrison to serve as interim county administrator effective 07/01/2026," Ms. Perkins read during the meeting. The resolution states Rollins entered her employment agreement on 07/02/2020 and amended it in November 2022, and that she announced her intention to voluntarily retire effective 07/01/2026.
Board member Mister Hardy moved to approve the resolution "as read by Miss Perkins," and a second was recorded. The board then recorded affirmations from members during the roll call: Mister Drew, Mister Pierce, Mister Calhoun, Mister Hardy and the chair each indicated "aye," and the chair declared the motion carried. The resolution also authorized the chair to execute "Amendment No. 2" to Rollins' employment agreement, subject to legal sufficiency review by the county attorney.
The appointment is intended to provide leadership continuity during the transition to Rollins' retirement. The board set its next meeting for Jan. 15 at 6:00 p.m.
