The Town of Brookfield Planning Board opened a public hearing on July 6, 2026 to consider an Intent to Excavate application and Gravel Permit for Thomas Smith, property at Map 11 Lot 1, 228 Governors Rd. Chair Ed Ingalls read the notice into the record and explained that the State now requires gravel pits to have annually renewed permit numbers, a change that prompted the town to hold hearings to assign permit numbers to the town's two gravel pits.
Board members and members of the public present discussed dates for concluding the hearing after the applicant said he could not attend. Member Donna Faucette made a motion to continue the hearing to the Planning Board's regular meeting on August 10, which Mark Lofgren seconded; the motion carried unanimously, 7-0. Chair Ingalls formally continued the hearing at 6:15 p.m., noting the continuation was tentative and dependent on the applicant's agreement.
The hearing record shows the application is available for inspection at the Brookfield Town Offices during normal business hours. The board did not take further substantive action on the permit at the July 6 session; the matter will return to the board on August 10, 2026 if the applicant confirms the date.
