Chair Richard Zacher announced that Kate Kinville will begin as the new Select Board Assistant in one week. He also reported that Consolidated Communications (operating as Fidium) is actively installing a fiber backbone with work expected to finish by the end of August; residential hookups and module installations will begin after backbone work is complete and will be available where telephone service previously existed.
Zacher noted the copper phone system is expected to be phased out over time and that fiber service will provide residents with an additional internet choice. No specific customer-activation dates were provided at the meeting.
