Operations staff report 12.5% recent water loss; SCADA equipment arrival and meter calibration planned

Operations staff reported a recent spike in unaccounted-for water and outlined next steps to improve measurement and monitoring. "30.8 million gallons of water were sold, 35 million gallons of water produced and a loss of 4.4 million gallons," operations staff (Mr. Finch) told the board, characterizing that loss as roughly 12.5 percent across the last two months of the year and January. Chair Greg Chambers and Mr. Finch discussed calibrating the Authority's largest meters at Grays Point and Christchurch to ensure accurate revenue collection.

Mr. Finch also reported that the SCADA system equipment has arrived and will be installed with the vendor, a step Mr. England said is part of improving remote monitoring and reducing measurement uncertainty. The board emphasized the need to coordinate communication with the local fire department after fires were identified as a possible contributor to elevated water use during the loss window. No vote was required; staff reported they will schedule vendor installation and a meter-calibration plan.
