Commissioners concur with Centerville annexation of 123.25 acres on William Drive with infrastructure conditions

The Houston County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously March 18 to concur with the City of Centerville's request to annex 123.25 acres on William Drive (Tax Parcel 000720 001000) and to change zoning from County R-1 to City of Centerville R-2.

Commissioner Gottwals introduced the annexation request and the board approved a motion that attached several stipulations to any future development. The conditions require 8-inch water mains throughout the parcel, an additional 8-inch water main on William Drive connecting the proposed subdivision to the existing county main on Houston Lake Road, and a traffic/trip-generation study to confirm county roads can support proposed traffic. The board also required that proposed subdivision streets connect to county roads where existing right-of-way adjoins the development. The motion carried unanimously.

Chairman Perdue and other commissioners discussed access concerns in the context of zoning density differences, explaining the final stipulation aims to avoid directing traffic from more densely zoned parcels into less-dense areas. Commissioner Byrd asked whether adjoining unincorporated parcels would be automatically annexed; County Attorney Tom Hall clarified that any additional annexation would require its own process and could not be automatic. The board recorded the action as a concurrence with the city's annexation request subject to the listed infrastructure and traffic conditions.
