VDOT reports 91.7% completion rate on Surry County work orders; latex overlay planned for spring

VDOT updated the Surry County Board of Supervisors on routine maintenance and upcoming projects for the Oct.–Dec. 2025 quarter.
The agency reported the county had 71 generated work-order requests that quarter with 61 completed (85.9%); VDOT also submitted 147 planned work orders and completed 139 (94.6%). Combined, VDOT said there were 218 work orders, 200 completed and 18 outstanding — a 91.7% overall completion rate. The presentation listed pothole patching on Routes 617, 605, 604, 634 and Route 31; pipe repairs; slope mowing and shoulder repairs; and a bridge substructure project on Route 617 over the Blackwater River that may require limited lane closures but largely uses boats and scaffolding to reduce traffic impacts. VDOT said a latex overlay is scheduled from late April to early May on a stretch approaching the ferry to preserve pavement and delay cracking.
Supervisors thanked VDOT for winter response work and asked staff to consider maintenance-of-traffic plans for the scheduled resurfacing to avoid backups when the Surry Power Station cycles outages; VDOT said contractors typically pave mobile stretches and that maintenance-of-traffic measures will be part of the contract.
