Board approves janitorial contract amendment adding library, registrar office

Surry County supervisors approved a contract amendment Feb. 5 that adds two county buildings to the existing janitorial services agreement with Rock Solid Janitorial and extends the renewal through Aug. 31, 2026.
County attorney Perkins told the board the amendment adds the regional library and the Voter Registrar’s office to the original pilot program and reflects a requested increase tied to the Jan. 1 minimum-wage change. "We are now adding the regional library and also the voter registrar's office," Perkins said. She gave monthly figures: cleaning of the Voter Registrar’s Office (one day per week) rose from $547.77 to $563.66; the regional library (two times per week) rose from $997.61 to $1,026.54.
Supervisor McConnell asked for clarification about the roughly $100 total monthly increase; Perkins said the change in pay and some schedule adjustments account for the difference. The board approved the consent items, including the contract amendment, by voice vote. The amendment will be posted to the county website after the meeting and staff said they will implement the revised schedule and upload the updated exhibit.
