Terry Gray introduced herself to the General Government Committee on May 6 as a community leader and former city councilwoman who says she has run nonprofit initiatives addressing hunger and workforce development in Shelby County.
Gray said she is seeking to fill the District 93 vacancy and described the district as largely African American with mixed neighborhoods and pressing needs for employment, trade training and food access. She told commissioners she has “a hands-on track record in the community of transformation” and cited a nonprofit she leads and partnerships with local organizations including a farmers market and Whole Foods that she said serve parts of Shelby County.
During follow-up questions Gray said she had raised roughly $7.7 million for her nonprofit’s countywide work and said the district’s voter turnout figures vary by year — she told commissioners that about 16,504 voters participated in the 2022 election and that other elections drew lower turnout. She emphasized bridge-building and collaborative approaches to working in Nashville’s current partisan environment.
