The Houston County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to levy a 5% lodging tax in the county's unincorporated area pursuant to O.C.G.A. 48-13-51(a)(3). Commissioner Chris Talton presented the proposal and the Board voted unanimously to adopt the resolution.
County Attorney Tom Hall had provided a first reading earlier in the meeting and described a proposed allocation of the 5% tax: 1.5% to support the Museum of Aviation, 1.5% to the Georgia Ag Expo Authority/Georgia National Fairgrounds, and the remaining 2% into the County general fund for administrative, tourism, and marketing efforts. A second reading and public hearing on the ordinance are scheduled for May 20, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the County Annex in Warner Robins.
