Houston County approves lodging tax ordinance; Museum of Aviation named as beneficiary

The Houston County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a lodging tax ordinance adding Article V to Chapter 58 of the County Code of Ordinances. Commissioner Robinson presented the second reading and opened a public hearing; there were no comments and the Board voted to approve the addition (motion by Ms. Robinson, second by Mr. Talton).
Chairman Perdue recognized Dan Rhoades from the Museum of Aviation and said a portion of lodging tax dollars will support the Museum, which he described as important for attracting visitors and advancing local education and economic development. The ordinance permits the County to levy and collect an excise tax to provide additional funding for promotion of tourism, conventions, and trade shows.
