Superintendent Trip Goodall reviewed a legislative update provided by OSBA and COSA and told the board the district should monitor accountability provisions closely. "If we make goals and then we don’t meet them then ODE would provide coaching, if it continues 3 years then there could be intervention," Goodall said, noting that the board should be aware of those potential consequences when setting measurable goals.
Goodall also warned that the state school fund is expected to come in lower than anticipated over the next few years, a development board members discussed as they considered the potential budgetary implications for programs and staffing. Board members and staff exchanged questions about the possible effects; no specific budget decisions were made at the session.
The superintendent advised continued monitoring of legislative developments and directed staff to factor funding projections and accountability risks into the upcoming goal and budget discussions.
