Airport Manager Mr. Lewis reported progress on terminal building renovations at Hummel Field: flooring and carpeting were installed in the conference room and pilot lounge, only minor finishing work remains, and furniture ordered for the project came in under budget with delivery expected in four to eight weeks. Mr. Lewis introduced Steven Smiley of the Virginia Department of Aviation for an economic-impact briefing.
Smiley presented findings from the updated Commonwealth Aviation Economic Impact Study using 2024 data and said Hummel Field experienced the highest increase in economic output in the commonwealth, with an increase of over 723% from 2016 to 2025; he said the runway realignment and extension were major drivers. Smiley noted a technical report is expected to be released in April.
