Board acknowledges sheriff's retirement and hears body-camera rollout schedule

County Attorney Heather W. Lewis presented Resolution R-2026-003 formally acknowledging the sheriff's retirement and directing her to file the petition and writ with the Middlesex County Circuit Court to request a special election; the board adopted the resolution by unanimous roll call. Lewis explained that the person elected in November will assume office after certification and serve out the remainder of the term.
Major Sampson updated the board on the Sheriff's Office body-camera program, saying implementation began in February but the program was temporarily paused to allow for a required 21-day public notice about department policy; he reported the program is expected to go live on March 11. No policy adoption vote was recorded during the meeting.
