Middle- and high-school students update board on academics, attendance and activities
Summary
Students from Warrenton High School and Warrenton Middle School reported to the board on Nov. 12 about class offerings, extracurriculars and student life; WMS presenters said the school’s attendance exceeded 81% and listed several curricular and extracurricular offerings.
High-school students Declan Wallace and Owen Cross presented a student report to the board; Warrenton Middle School students Brooke Norman and Addy Peterson delivered a separate, more detailed summary of academic programs and student life.
Brooke Norman told the board, “Good evening, my name is Brooke Norman. And my name is Addy Peterson,” before outlining WMS offerings including digital design, creative writing, band, STEAM, robotics, publications and leadership. The WMS report noted supplemental support classes (Math Plus and ELA Plus), an attendance rate of "over an 81% attendance rate among all grade levels," recent fall-sports results, and student-life events such as spirit week and a Halloween dance. The WMS presenters also referenced a community crab feed fundraiser and bingo event scheduled for the weekend.
Student presenters closed by thanking the board and noting they look forward to the next meeting. The student reports were accepted as part of the meeting’s information items with no vote required.
