Coquille School District 8 Superintendent reported that the district received notice that “federal funding for some major federal programs is currently put on hold,” and said she will attend a statewide superintendents’ meeting tomorrow to seek clarification and relay updates to the board.
The superintendent told the board the pause specifically affected Title II funds and included Title 1C and Title IV. She said the hold is part of a federal review to look for “fraud, waste, and abuse,” and that while some interruptions may be short-term, the board should be aware of potential effects on next year’s budget. “That money is currently being put on hold coming out of the federal government,” she said. She added she would send a follow-up email to board members after the statewide meeting with the latest information.
The superintendent also reminded the board that Senate Bill 141 has been signed into law and the district is awaiting guidance from the Oregon Department of Education on implementation. The board did not take formal action on the funding notice at this meeting; next steps are to await the statewide meeting results and any guidance the district receives.
