Burke County honors EMS crews and first responders for recent lifesaving calls

Burke County commissioners recognized multiple EMS crews, volunteer firefighters and individual responders for resuscitation and lifesaving work this spring, highlighting two calls that produced return of spontaneous circulation and bringing a child survivor to the dais.
Emergency Services Director James Robinson told the Burke County Board of Commissioners on July 20 that local EMS and fire personnel performed multiple lifesaving interventions this spring, including defibrillation and prolonged CPR on at least two patients. "This is what miracles look like when they walk in the room, folks," Robinson said as he introduced a child whose life responders helped save.
Robinson named specific responders from county EMS and local fire departments — including Nick McCracken, Robert Ledbetter, Caleb Brady, Katie Rudissel and Liliana Swan — and described an April machinery-injury call and a cardiac-arrest transport in which crews achieved return of spontaneous circulation. Commissioners and the audience gave certificates and coins to crews and volunteers during the recognition. The board did not take action related to the presentations; the recognitions were ceremonial and aimed at acknowledging first-responder performance.
