Montgomery group readies knotweed project; QA plan underway and action planned for spring

The Montgomery Conservation Commission said Sept. 3 that a knotweed-control project funded through a grant is expected to begin in 2026 and that preparation work is underway.
Kip Potter told the commission he is developing a quality-assurance plan for the knotweed project; the group noted knotweed is present not only along the riverbank but also in interior parts of Town Land. The commission scheduled field and procurement steps tied to the knotweed work: a late-October/early-November site walk to mark surviving trees and assess priorities, late-fall RFPs for plan and control contracts, and early-spring treatment and mowing activity focused on the interior knotweed patches.
Meeting notes record that Derek has been mowing the property as previously planned, and the commission asked members to provide existing TL plans and knotweed documentation to FCNRCD staff so contracting and work scopes can be developed. Dorothy Kinney‑Landis, representing FCNRCD, agreed to check whether her organization could be hired to develop the management plan and to continue exploring funding sources for the associated flood‑plain restoration work.
