Commission raises WUI fee, updates county fee schedule and Kanab Center policy

Kane County commissioners adopted Resolution R-2026-1 on Jan. 27 to update the county's 2026 fee schedule and the Kanab Center use policy, including multiple technical fee adjustments and a notable increase to the WUI (wildland-urban interface) fee.
Commissioner Celeste Malloy moved to adopt the resolution with changes that raise the WUI fee from $225 to $500 for an initial structure and add a $300 fee for an accessory dwelling unit when the certificate of occupancy is issued. "For the WUI fee, it will be increased from $225 to $500 initial. And then, additionally ... that would be an additional 300," Malloy said when moving the resolution. County staff also explained the treasurer requested a $50 fee related to tax-sale administration and staff updated electric-vehicle charger rates to avoid subsidizing electricity costs.
The Kanab Center policy now includes an alcohol-service requirement aligned with recent state law (requiring ID checks), training and an approved-vendor list; the resolution also clarifies deposit rules for repeated free-use reservations and cleaning deposits for gym/ballroom use. The motion carried by voice vote.
