Reported bullying incidents are down; district weighs underreporting and new screeners

Staff told the board that the number of bullying incidents recorded in the district dropped substantially compared with the baseline year. "As of June 2, 2025, as of this month, we've had 2 incidents recorded for this year," the Staff member said and added that the figure represents an 85% decrease from the 2023'24 baseline.
Board members and staff discussed whether the decline reflects a real reduction or differences in reporting practices across buildings. Staff also reported challenges implementing interventions tied to the DESA screener and said Chad is exploring Wayfinder'aligned screeners that better integrate with the district's SEL curriculum and follow-up supports. The district plans to pilot or adopt a screener that improves the connection between identification and intervention.
