The Howard County Alcoholic Beverage Hearing Board on Sept. 10 approved a new Class B (beer, wine and liquor, seven‑day on‑sale) license for Jiangsu Solongtang LLC (trading as Jiangsu) at 10039 Baltimore National Pike, Unit B in Ellicott City subject to submission of required background/fingerprint receipts.
Attorney Mr. Hurtle outlined the operation as a small, 1,400‑square‑foot restaurant with roughly 36 seats that will primarily serve beef bone‑broth soup; alcohol (beer and soju) will be a limited accessory to food rather than the driver of sales. The applicant was sworn and, through his interpreter Sais Kim, said the establishment’s menu is focused and that front‑of‑house staff will be trained: "Beef bone broth soup, yeah," the interpreter said when describing the menu. Board members asked about who would be on site during service and whether front‑of‑house staff had alcohol‑serving experience; the applicant’s daughter will assist with front‑of‑house duties and the applicant said his sister has completed alcohol‑awareness training.
Board members agreed the application was straightforward but added a contingency to provide a fingerprint receipt for the background check before final issuance. The motion to approve, moved by Mr. Hunt and seconded, passed unanimously.
