Councilmembers report on landfill funding, road work and racetrack discussions

Councilmember Dennis W. Alldredge reported county-level activity including approval of another solar project west of IPP and ongoing public opposition to a prior data center; he also said Cedar Mountain Road will close briefly for installation of eight culverts. Alldredge noted Millard County transferred funds into the landfill PTIF account for closure and post-closure costs and said the city must complete state permitting before hiring staff and acquiring equipment.
"There are county employees that don’t want the city to acquire the horse racetrack and arena," said Councilmember Dennis W. Alldredge, as the council discussed possible land-exchange scenarios and the historical value of preserving the track and arena. Councilmember Amber Rausch said keeping the arena benefits the community and preserves local history. Mayor Pro Tem Michael B. Winget said bid requests will go out for sidewalk reconstruction at the Main Street and 300 North intersection (northeast section). Councilmember Eugene R. Larsen noted UAMPS offers a $500-per-year sponsorship toward one city celebration event and that a UAMPS workshop is scheduled for April 22; Larsen also reported an airplane landed while core testing was underway on the airport runway and that the incident was submitted to the FAA.
