Redlands Community College President Dr. Jena Marr updated the Board of Regents on May 7 that the college had been affected by a nationwide ransomware incident that disrupted the Canvas learning management system. Notification of the incident was received May 6, 2026; the outage interfered with final examinations and student access to coursework, and more than 9,000 schools nationwide were reportedly affected.
Marr said college IT and key staff were responding to the incident, with Chief Information Officer Jeff Pearce and staff member Kristen Winterrowd assisting with incident response during the meeting. The administration is preparing communications to students and faculty and noted that cybersecurity insurance coverage exists should financial losses occur. A formal update will be provided at the June Board meeting.
