District outlines committees and staff work to implement Senate Bill 141

Superintendent Wayne briefed the board on district planning related to Senate Bill 141 (education accountability). He said administrators formed committees to tackle six areas of the bill and that committees collectively involved more than 60 staff members who reviewed longitudinal data and regional trends before making recommendations.
"When I typed this up, I had his count at 50, but I was still missing 1 presentation. And after that presentation, we actually ended up with over 60 staff members," the superintendent said, summarizing committee participation. He described committee leads and their focus areas: K-2 attendance, 3rd-grade proficiency, 8th-grade math alignment, 9th-grade on-track efforts, 4-year graduation supports, and 5-year completers and testing funding. The administration will present detailed SB 141 plans to the board over the next two months for inclusion in the May budget and board approval in June.
District leaders also noted a strategic investment in IXL for assessments and said they were awaiting state decisions on approved interim assessment tools to avoid adding costs should IXL be adopted at the state level.
