At the Coquille School District board meeting, Winter Lakes High School students and staff presented a school spotlight highlighting career and reengagement programming.
Student Yvette testified that before coming to Winter Lakes she was behind on credits and unmotivated but found support after enrolling. "If I had to describe Winter Lakes in 3 words, the 1st would be understanding," Yvette said, and credited teachers for helping her make a plan to finish her coursework. She described discovering cosmetology through hands-on programs and field trips and said the school helped her identify a career path.
Winter Lakes staff described practical career-and-college experiences, including TRIO, Aspire programming, and visits to Klamath Community College and trade expos. Tiffany Cox and academic staff highlighted plans for college-and-career week (March 9โโ12) and a new student-run nail store at the school, and invited board members and community volunteers to help with resume workshops and mock interviews.
