Superintendent warns of steep enrollment decline, possible staffing impacts

Superintendent Wayne told the board the latest population report shows the district's enrollment at 1,181 and that the district has experienced a measurable decline in recent years that could force staffing changes if it continues.
"So right now, our latest enrollment number is 11 81, puts us 19 students below what we did," Wayne said as he reviewed four-year trends and average daily membership figures. He said the district previously budgeted at higher enrollment figures and cautioned that the current trajectory could put the district about 145 students down over three years, which "we cannot continue to operate at the staffing levels that we currently have" if it continues.
Wayne outlined committee work tied to implementing Senate Bill 141 recommendations — attendance interventions, vertical alignment in math and writing, credit recovery, and expanded mental health/reengagement offerings — and said the administration will present interim assessment proposals and specific recommendations in the coming months as the budget is developed.
