Veneta honors winners of "If I Were Mayor" student contest; Easy Armstrong takes first place

Management Analyst Jacob Thode presented the City’s participation in the annual "If I Were Mayor" program, which ran from September through April to engage elementary, middle, and high school students in civic education. Thode said the city ran local competitions and that high school entrants were asked to submit digital media presentations. The City received four applicants this year and selected two winners: Easy Armstrong (first place, $50 and a certificate) and Brett Van Damme (second place, $25 and a certificate). The winning video was played and certificates and photographs were taken with Mayor Robbie McCoy.
Staff thanked Elmira High School teacher Michelle Nelson for encouraging student participation. The City said it has seen improving quality in submissions and expressed hope the program will continue to grow as a civic-education opportunity for local youth.
