Veneta council adopts housekeeping amendments to zoning code

The Veneta City Council on April 13 unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 601, a set of housekeeping amendments to the Veneta Zoning and Development Code aimed at correcting errors and clarifying inconsistencies. Mayor Robbie McCoy called for the second reading and Council voted 5-0 to adopt the ordinance.

Associate Planner Daniel Findlay said the bulk of the changes were editorial and procedural rather than substantive. "Most of the changes were housekeeping items to clarify errors and inconsistencies, generally making the code easier to read, use, and work more smoothly," Findlay said. The ordinance was read into the record by title only before the vote.

Council President Pat Coy moved the second-reading motion and Councilor Alexa Benson seconded it; the roll call vote was unanimous. The Council did not request a full reading of the ordinance text during the meeting and staff noted the specific edits were listed in the agenda packet. The adoption updates the city's code text but, according to staff, does not change the substantive zoning entitlements for properties.
