The Nemaha County Board of Equalization approved numerous tax-list corrections during meetings in 2013, recording both additions and deductions to tax bills tied to clerical errors, ownership changes and corrected land-use classifications.
Examples include an added personal-property tax of $2,260.92 for Brian Moody (approved Jan. 9), an acceleration of mobile-home taxes for Kathy Gebers ($345.88) approved May 8, and a deduction of $747.36 for the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges following a confirmed sale to a political subdivision. In December the board corrected homestead-credit placement for Ronald and Janet Eickhoff, which resulted in a net movement of credits between parcels (one deduction of $1,166.26 and a corresponding $470.16 addition on a different parcel). The minutes repeatedly show motions such as: "Motion by Bohling, seconded by Hutton to approve tax list correction for Bulldog Auto Parts in the amount of $103.18 added tax."
The corrections were presented by County Assessor Jana Smith and adopted by roll-call votes. The board’s actions adjusted individual tax liabilities and, in some cases, required clerical follow-up by the County Clerk and Treasurer to reflect changes on the tax rolls.
