Westfir council tables recorder’s proposed waiver/resolution; will revisit budget for possible midyear raise

Nicole Trenton, the city recorder, presented a drafted Resolution 575 proposing to waive receiving an immediate increase and to document merit increase eligibility in the next fiscal year. Councilors questioned the current budget capacity to deliver an increase effective Jan. 1 and asked staff to look for room in personal-services lines or consider a midyear adjustment.
A councilor asked when Trenton last received a raise; Trenton replied it was at the beginning of 2025 and that the last increase had been 6%. Trenton said she had written the resolution to record the merit increase on paper if the council wished to do so later and asked the council to consider midyear adjustment when the fiscal year rolls.
After discussion the council voted to table Resolution 575 for further review and asked staff to return with budget details and the correct timing for any increase. Councilors suggested they may consider a partial 3% January 1 increase if budget lines permit, or otherwise implement merit when the fiscal year allows.
