Nemaha County approves motor-vehicle tax exemptions for churches, nonprofits and college foundation

Across multiple hearings in 2013 the Nemaha County Board of Equalization granted motor-vehicle tax exemptions to faith-based organizations, social-service providers and the Peru State College Foundation after public hearings where no opposition was recorded.
The Nemaha County Board of Equalization reviewed and approved multiple applications for motor-vehicle tax exemptions throughout 2013. During the Jan. 23 public hearing the board approved exemption applications for St. James Lutheran Church (2012 Chevrolet sedan), Nemaha County Good Samaritan (several vehicles, including a 2011 Chevrolet sedan and 2006 Dodge van), Auburn Christian Church (2005 Ford bus), LL Coryell & Son Park Foundation (1999 Chevrolet pickup), Peru State College Foundation (2009 Chevrolet sedan), Catholic Social Services (1987 Dodge pickup), St. Clara Catholic Church (two Chevrolet vans) and Hearts United for Animals (2005 Chevrolet pickup and 2011 Chevrolet van). The minutes record that "No one was present to oppose the Motor Vehicle exemptions."
At the April 10 meeting the board also approved a 2013 Ford sedan exemption for the Peru State College Foundation; the Assessor’s presentation and the lack of opposition were recorded and the board approved the application with Commissioner Wittmann abstaining on that vote. Subsequent hearings in June, July and November recorded additional exemptions (for example, Catholic Social Services' 2004 Mitsubishi box truck approved June 25 and Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Home Care approvals). The board's approvals were recorded by roll-call vote in each instance.
