Bill, a city staff member who has been coordinating the project, said one existing sign sits approximately 200 feet west of the city entrance and proposed moving a unit to a pole next to the entrance for better visibility: "The 1st... sign is probably about 200 feet west of the entrance to the city... my request... is to move it to the pole right next to the entrance," he said. He also recommended a second pole near the former 'welcome to Westfir' sign to better capture speeds as drivers round the corner.
Staff noted permitting questions: the county requires a facility permit and staff will confirm application details and whether a fee is required. Councilors discussed mounting methods and durability (industrial bands/zip ties are used on utility poles for some current signs) and flagged possible false triggering by railroad vibration. No formal action was taken; staff will pursue permitting and a larger site diagram for the county application.
