The Westfir City Council agreed to contribute $1,000 toward the Eugene Cascades & Coast visitor guide to ensure Oak Ridge and Westfir continue to be included in the regional promotion.
James Clevenger told the council the city of Oak Ridge has historically paid for two pages in the guide for Oak Ridge/Westfir and that the cost rose to $3,425 for this year. Clevenger said Oak Ridge asked Westfir to provide $1,000 — about 29% of the local share — so the communities remain listed and have input on the guide copy. "If we don't pay this $1,425, well, then Oak Ridge and West Square are not mentioned," Clevenger said (audio/text as delivered in the presentation).
Councilors reviewed budget availability in the RTMP line; staff noted $1,500 in the advertising budget with $700 already spent, leaving enough funds to cover the $1,000 request. A motion to contribute $1,000 carried with one councilor abstaining. Staff will coordinate payment with Oak Ridge staff and provide text edits to the guide as requested by councilors.
The council noted the guide print runs produce several thousand physical copies and complementary online exposure.
