She said she obtained a private quote of $4,000 to complete the petition work if outsourced.
Council members said they understood the concern and reached a consensus to have staff reassess the abandonment petition process, including setting a timeframe in which utility companies must respond to petitioners. Any recommended amendments will return to the council before being submitted as a Land Development Regulation Text Amendment. The document read during the presentation was added to the official minute file as Exhibit 10.
Council discussion framed the request as potential administrative relief for property owners and a way to reduce city liability and bring property back onto the tax roll when abandonments occur.
