The Emery County Local Building Authority voted June 16 to advertise a request for bids to install a xeriscape landscape at the Huntington Senior Center in Huntington. The design presented, prepared by Ro Zwolan of the Utah State University Extension, specifies 2-inch-caliper trees, 5-gallon shrubs and 1-gallon ornamental grasses with drip irrigation and rock mulch already on site.
The Chair said staff would quantify on-site rock and provide specifications for soil improvement and irrigation connection sizing before the bid package is finalized. "We can put together a bid proposal if you're so inclined," the Chair said during discussion. A Committee member moved to advertise the bid and a second was recorded; the Chair called the roll and the motion passed with affirmative votes.
The board discussed water-connection capacity and whether Huntington has sufficient water to support the plantings; staff were asked to provide the irrigation connection size. The decision directs staff to prepare the formal request for bids including plant sizes and soil-amendment notes so contractors can price the work.
