LBA approves up to $25,000 to finish Huntington Senior Citizen Center, including ADA ramp

The Emery County Local Building Authority voted on March 3 to allocate up to $25,000 of LBA funds to complete requested finish work and accessibility updates at the Huntington Senior Citizen Center. Committee members moved and seconded the motion and the chair announced the allocation after roll-call affirmation.
County staff described five items with cost details: shelving over the back kitchen area ($1,360); custom covers for the hot and cold wells in the serving area ($414); additional soundproofing for the main room ($13,400); a threshold/transition between the pantry and kitchen (cost not yet specified); and a concrete ramp at the front entrance estimated at $7,432, with an approximate $3,000 savings if the optional handrail is not installed. Staff said the ramp would slope at 1:12 to meet ADA requirements and that the handrail is recommended for user safety even though it is not required.
Board members discussed prioritizing the ADA ramp and other finish items and the motion included the intent to seek reimbursement from the requesting party where appropriate. The board directed staff to obtain specific bids and move forward with procurement and invoicing as needed. The motion passed and staff will follow up to obtain quotes and schedule the work.
