LBA approves minutes, 2026 meeting dates; tables three capital requests pending public hearing

The Emery County Local Building Authority opened its March 3 meeting at 2:35 p.m. and approved the September 2024 meeting minutes following a motion and roll call affirmation.
The board also approved its 2026 meeting schedule (quarterly: March 3, June 2, September 1, December 15) by motion, second and roll call. During budget discussion the county auditor noted $50,000 is currently budgeted and that any additional appropriations would require reopening the 2026 budget by public hearing.
Facing multiple capital requests, the chair and board members discussed three larger items — a search-and-rescue building at the sheriff’s office, Fair and Library landscaping and ADA work, and a large-scale weigh station at the Farrin Agricultural Center — and moved to table items 3–5 to allow a public hearing and potential special meeting to consider additional funding. The chair explained that a public hearing and a formal budget reopening will be required to increase the appropriated amount.
Separately, the board approved two LBA actions that remain within or tied to the $50,000 currently identified in the budget: an allocation of up to $25,000 to complete finish work and accessibility improvements at the Huntington Senior Citizen Center, and authorization of a plan of action to pursue landscaping (also up to $25,000), which together account for the currently available funds. A special public hearing to reopen the 2026 budget was discussed for March 17 to consider further appropriations if needed.
