Amargosa schools spotlighted; K–5 Academic Bowl launched districtwide

Assistant Superintendent Genoveva Lopez-Angelo updated trustees on Board Goal 1, which seeks that "by the end of the 2025–2026 school year, 80% of staff will consistently use identified essential standards" measured through lesson plans, observations, teacher self-assessments and PLC data.
Principal Amanda Arceo presented an Amargosa spotlight, describing campus efforts under the Student Connectedness initiative. She said Amargosa Valley Elementary aims for 100% student participation in at least one structured cross-grade collaborative activity per quarter and a 10% increase in belonging (baseline: 94% sense of belonging in grades K–2; 77.6% in grades 3–5). Amargosa Valley Middle School aims for 100% participation in two quarterly cross-grade activities, a 15% increase in belonging and a 10% reduction in reported social isolation (baseline: 60% positive sense of belonging in grades 6–8).
Mrs. Jerabek also introduced the K–5 Academic Bowl, a standards-aligned, three-phase competition that progresses from classroom rounds to a district championship intended to encourage collaborative problem-solving.
